Transfer Students
Transfer Credits
If you have been admitted and accepted UBC’s offer of admission, and have received transfer credits, you may be eligible to use the credits to fulfill requirements in the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree. Transfer students are required to satisfy all course requirements for which they have not received credit. Refer to the BCom degree requirements.
If you have not received credit for the following courses, you should plan on completing COMM 105, COMM 196 or COMM 202 when admitted to the program. Not completing these courses can delay your degree progression.
Note that at least 50% of the program requirements must be completed while enrolled at UBC Sauder (i.e. minimum 61 credits in BCOM; 64 credits in BUCS). See Requirements to Receive a Degree or Diploma. Additionally, all upper-level (300- and 400-level) core requirements must be completed while enrolled in the program.
Where to View Transfer Credits
You can view your credits on your Workday Student account by following the pathway Workday Student account > Academics > Transfer Credits with the exception of transfer students admitted with a prior degree. Prior degree holders will receive a separate assessment from UBC Sauder.

1Equivalent Transfer Credits apply only to transfer students who completed the equivalent course prior to entering the BCom program. Upon entering the program, BCom students are expected to satisfy the BCOM course requirements (not the equivalent credits).
2Elective requirements for students transferring directly into 2nd or 3rd year class standing range from 42 to 48 credits in total (includes the 3 credits in lieu of COMM 101) depending on the option (specialization). Refer to the elective requirements for details.
Before submitting a request:
- Review the credits in the BC Transfer Guide and/or UBC’s Transfer Credit Search (and UBC’s first-year credit for AP, IB or A-Level courses). Some courses may already include a notation “not for credit in the BCOM program”.
- Check the program requirements and the course description to see if there is a substantial overlap in the content with the course you have completed.
Requesting an assessment:
- Ensure you include a comprehensive outline of the course(s) you seek an assessment. The outline should include:
- institution’s name
- course name and code
- credit value
- course completion year
- course duration
- name of the instructor
- textbook and materials used
- breakdown of the classes per week or day
- grade assessment
- course description/learning outcomes
- Complete the Transfer Credit Evaluation Request Form
- An assessment can take upwards to 4 weeks to complete from the time the request is submitted.
- Results for the course articulation may be one of the following:
- Credit for a specific course
- Exemption means that you took a course that was deemed similar but not equivalent and the content of the course is sufficient to fulfil the requirements of the UBC course
- General COMM unspecified credits that might be considered toward elective requirements
- No credits
After an assessment:
- You are not permitted to forfeit post-secondary transfer credits that have been granted.
- Courses that are assessed to a direct equivalent COMM course will be updated on your UBC Workday Student. No grade information is listed. The grades you received for the course will not be reflected or used in the calculation of your UBC grades. However, the Undergraduate Office will refer to the grade received from the original institution to determine if you have fulfill the course minima required for declaring an option in Accounting or Finance.
- You may decide to reduce your course load. Note that credit minima may differ for other considerations such as eligibility to receive and retain scholarships, to reside in UBC residence, or to apply to a post-graduation work permit. Carefully review any conditions relevant to your personal circumstances to ensure your continued eligibility.
