Orientation Leader and Volunteer hiring 2020

Hey Sauder!

Start practicing those cheers. We're now hiring Orientation Leaders, Spirit Leaders, and Volunteers for 2020.

We're looking for individuals who:

  • embody the Sauder Spirit
  • are passionate about making sure every new student feels welcome in the UBC Sauder community
  • exemplify Sauder’s core values of rigour, respect, and responsibility
  • know how to have responsible fun with a good sense of judgement
  • love being a Sauder student!

We're hiring for three key positions. The deadline to apply is Thursday, February 13, 2020, at 11:59pm.

Position descriptions

Orientation Leader

We're looking for leaders with diverse involvement experiences, responsibility, and above all, Sauder Spirit! Whether you're a maniac on the dance floor or love having meaningful conversations, we want you to be a part of the team! Orientation Leaders commit to lead a group of first year or transfer students through Imagine UBC, The Spark and Spark Chats with the core mission of ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging as a part of both the Sauder and UBC communities.

In addition to the attributes listed above, you must be committed to supporting your group throughout their first year at all three programs (Imagine UBC, The Spark and Spark Chats).

What is the time commitment of an Orientation Leader?
Do I have to commit to all three programs (Imagine UBC, The Spark and Spark Chats)?
What if I plan to do exchange or co-op and can’t attend some of the Spark Chats events?
What if I'm also a Jump Start Leader?
Do I need to make a video as part of my application?
Do I need to be an extrovert to be an Orientation Leader?

Spirit Leader

Are you a senior student, or graduating this year, and want to ensure the Sauder spirit stays alight in the hallways of Henry Angus? Then consider applying to be a Spirit Leader for Imagine Day and The Spark. By presenting the awards, leading cheers, playing spontaneous “minute-to-win-it” style games, and starting dance-offs this group of loud, creative, outgoing, and energetic people show new students what Sauder Spirit is all about.

Spark Volunteer

The Spark weekend wouldn’t happen without an awesome team of 80+ volunteers! Volunteers are UBC Sauder students who want to get more involved in the Sauder community and are excited to create the best possible welcome for new students by assisting with coat check, set-up, tear down, game stations, registration, food distribution, night event and more. They get a behind-the-scenes experience, have a ton of fun, and are right in the middle of all the action.

Spark Volunteers will also have to opportunity to help with Imagine UBC, but this is not required.
