UBC's motto is Tuum Est which translates to It’s Yours. We invite you to take full ownership of your university experience and approach learning with passion and enthusiasm.
As a new student, join in orientation activities to learn about all of the programs and services available to you. As a returning student, stay involved and give back by volunteering to help UBC welcome the incoming class.
New first-year students
If you’re a first-year student who is new to UBC, Jump Start offers the foundation for a successful transition to university life. It begins with a week-long immersion program at the end of August and continues with programming and support for you throughout your first year at UBC.
Whether you're an international or domestic student, planning to live in residence or planning to live off campus, Jump Start will provide you with opportunities to:
- meet new people; socialize, share meals and get to know other students
- get comfortable with university learning environments and connect with professors and senior peers
- move into residence early or practice your commute, and get to know UBC and Vancouver
- take care of necessities like tuition, textbooks, phones, and banking
Be social and have fun

All undergraduate students
On the first day of school, you’ll get to tour the campus, meet the Dean, learn about support services, join a student club, and enjoy free food and swag at the largest single university orientation day in Canada. If you’re new to campus, you’ll join over 6,000 first year students at UBC’s Thunderbird Arena for a rousing pep rally that will get you excited about the year ahead. Afterwards, you can learn about UBC's many services, clubs, programs, and resources by strolling through the Main Event on Main Mall.
If you're a returning student, you can attend workshops to further your professional development and connect with alumni to expand your network.
Make friends for life
Orientation is just your first step. Immerse yourself in university life through the many clubs and services offered by the AMS and CUS student societies.
New UBC Sauder students
At the end of your first week of classes, you’ll join 500 new students for this UBC Sauder exclusive orientation. There are a variety of activities, en masse and in smaller group sessions, to help you build connections with fellow classmates, senior BCom students, and alumni. Whether you're sprinting across campus in a scavenger hunt, painting your latest masterpiece, getting the inside scoop from alumni, or taking part in another of the many planned activities, you'll have fun and spark new friendships and connections that will serve you throughout your time at UBC Sauder and beyond.
Expand your scope
There are plenty of opportunities within UBC Sauder to enrich your university experience, but remember that there's a diverse campus out there to explore. Look outside the walls of Henry Angus for ways to connect with students from other programs and faculties, and build your campus community.
