UBC's motto is Tuum Est which translates to It’s Yours. We invite you to take full ownership of your university experience and approach learning with passion and enthusiasm.

As a new student, join in orientation activities to learn about all of the programs and services available to you. As a returning student, stay involved and give back by volunteering to help UBC welcome the incoming class.

Jump Start

New first-year students
If you’re a first-year student who is starting at UBC directly from high school, Jump Start offers the foundation for a successful transition to university life. It begins with a week-long immersion program at the end of August and continues with programming and support for you throughout your first year at UBC.

Whether you're an international or domestic student, planning to live in residence or planning to live off campus, Jump Start will provide you with opportunities to:

  • meet new people; socialize, share meals and get to know other students
  • get comfortable with university learning environments and connect with professors and senior peers
  • move into residence early or practice your commute, and get to know UBC and Vancouver
  • take care of necessities like tuition, textbooks, phones, and banking

Jump Start runs from August 24-30, 2019 if you're living in residence or August 26-30, 2019 if you're living off campus.
