UBC's motto is Tuum Est which translates to It’s Yours. We invite you to take full ownership of your university experience and approach learning with passion and enthusiasm.
As a new student, join in orientation activities to learn about all of the programs and services available to you. As a returning student, stay involved and give back by volunteering to help UBC welcome the incoming class.
New first-year students
Jump Start (August 31, 2020 – September 4, 2020) is the official academic orientation to UBC and is open to all first-year students coming to UBC from high school. Whether you are an international or domestic student, Jump Start is for you! This year, we’re looking forward to delivering a memorable virtual Jump Start experience for you and your classmates. By taking part in Jump Start, you will be provided opportunities to:
- Make friends: Be ready to hit the ground running on your first day of class. Over the course of the week, you’ll meet other first-year students who are new to UBC just like you.
- Meet profs and peers:Spend time with UBC professors and current students before classes start. They’ll introduce you to their research and the academic community, and give you tips to help you successfully transition from high school student to university scholar.
- Learn about your new home:Find out about all the UBC services available to you, and discover more about the campus community you’ll be joining when public health authorities determine it’s safe to return.
To find out more and to register for Jump Start, please visit:jumpstart.ubc.ca.The registration deadline is July 6. Space fills up quickly, so register early!

All undergraduate students
Imagine UBC is the campus-wide UBC welcome for all undergraduate students (first-year, transfer, and returning) and will take place online on September 8, 2020. You will be officially welcomed to the UBC Sauder School of Business by Dean Bob, participate in the virtual pep rally, and learn about clubs, resources and involvement opportunities available across the university.
Make friends for life
Orientation is just your first step. Immerse yourself in university life through the many clubs and services offered by the AMS and CUS student societies.
New UBC Sauder students
The Spark is your welcome to the UBC Sauder community. It’s a key part of the Sauder experience so we are going to wait and host an in-person version of the Spark for you as soon as we are all back on campus and it is safe to do so! Whenever the Spark happens, we promise to provide you with the classic cheering, dancing and games Spark experience so you can connect with old and new friends.
Expand your scope
There are plenty of opportunities within UBC Sauder to enrich your university experience, but remember that there's a diverse campus out there to explore. Look outside the walls of Henry Angus for ways to connect with students from other programs and faculties, and build your campus community.
