Career Mindset & Emotional Intelligence Toolkit
Did you know that emotional intelligence (EQ) is one of the biggest predictors of career success? Having a healthy EQ means you are able to understand and manage your emotions and form stable relationships. It also means you are able to be confident, resilient, independent, and optimistic in changing environments.
Fortunately for all of us, EQ is something you can improve and develop if you put in the work—and this toolkit will show you how to start doing that.
- Defining EQ: What it is and why it’s important
- The 10 competencies of EQ: What they are and how they apply to leadership, innovation, networking, and applying for jobs
- Emotional Capital Report Assessment: Get your Emotional Intelligence score so you know what and how to improve
- Creating a growth-mindset: Challenging your fears and negative thoughts that hold you back.

Take the Emotional Capital Report Assessment
This fifteen-minute EQ assessment is available for all UBC Sauder students. If you’d like to learn about your own emotional intelligence, your strengths, and areas that you can improve on, speak to a BCC Career Manager. You will be given an access code to the assessment, and once you complete it, schedule a debrief appointment with a Career Manager to discuss your results and develop strategies for growth going forward.
The Emotional Capital Report is a great starting point for determining what aspects of your emotional competencies to work on so that you can maximize your success and achieve fulfillment in your career life.
