Course Description

Organizations succeed through people. This course introduces students to the principles of organizational behaviour and management by examining how individuals, teams, and organizations think, feel, and behave in the workplace. Students explore topics including perception, personality, motivation, teamwork, leadership, power and influence, organizational culture, decision making, ethics, and organizational design. Through interactive discussions, case analyses, team projects, and applied exercises, students develop evidence-based management skills to understand workplace behaviour, lead themselves and others effectively, collaborate in diverse teams, and make informed managerial decisions that enhance both organizational performance and employee well-being.

Responsible Business Content

This course addresses responsible business by examining how managers create ethical, inclusive, and high-performing workplaces where individuals and teams can thrive. Students learn how leadership, organizational culture, motivation, decision making, and power influence employee well-being, collaboration, and organizational effectiveness. The course emphasizes evidence-based management and ethical decision making, encouraging students to consider the broader consequences of managerial actions for employees, organizations, and society (Responsible Business and Ethics).

In addition, through topics such as gender and leadership, teamwork, organizational culture, and respectful workplace interactions, students develop the knowledge and skills to foster inclusive organizations that value diverse perspectives and promote belonging (Indigenous + Equity, Diversity and Inclusion). The course also highlights the importance of creating psychologically healthy and supportive work environments that enable individuals to perform, develop, and flourish (Health and Well-being).
