COMM 438 - Management of Information Systems

This course is designed to introduce students to the issues, problems, and opportunities faced in managing information technology. The unprecedented increase in connectivity created great opportunities as well as great challenges. Firms have to exploit opportunities as well as prepare for challenges. In this course, we will examine how IT in the new networked environment enables firms to conduct business in more effective ways. We attempt to understand how new IT systems influence the business decisions. This course is designed to address the following questions:

  • What is the impact of IT on industries and market?
  • What kinds of opportunities within the organizations are created by the network economy?
  • How should we design and manage IT systems in order to reach business objectives?
  • How are IT activities led and managed at the boundary of four key constituents- business executives, IT executives, users, and IT partners?
  • How should IT projects be managed?
