Transfer Credits
Transfer Credits
Transfer credit is awarded at the university level, rather than at the faculty level, and is determined at the time of admission. The faculty level determines how the credits will apply to the program.
If you have been admitted and accepted UBC’s offer of admission, and have received transfer credits, you may be eligible to use the credits to fulfill requirements in the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree. Transfer students are required to satisfy all course requirements for which they have not received credit. Refer to the BCom degree requirements.
If you have not received credit for the following courses, you should plan on completing COMM 105, COMM 196 and COMM 202 when admitted to the program. Not completing these courses will delay your degree progression.
Transfer credits awarded at another institution or at UBC-O will be reassessed for the UBC-V BCom program.
Per the UBC Calendar at least 50% of the credits required for the program must be completed while registered in the program. If you transferred into the program in 2024W or later, the BCom program consists of 122 credits (including two 1-credit core courses: COMM 202 and COMM 400), this means 62 credits must be completed while in the BCom program and up to 60 credits completed prior to admission to the BCom program may apply. In the case of BUCS, 66 credits must be completed while in the BCom program. Additionally, all upper-level (300- and 400-level) core requirements must be completed while enrolled in the program. See Requirements to Receive a Degree or Diploma.
Where to View Transfer Credits
You can view your credits on your Workday Student account by following the pathway Workday Student account > Academics > View Academic Record with the exception of transfer students admitted with a prior degree. Students holding a prior degree from another institution will receive a separate assessment from UBC Sauder.

1Equivalent Transfer Credits apply only to transfer students who completed the equivalent course prior to entering the BCom program. Upon entering the program, BCom students are expected to satisfy the BCOM course requirements (not the equivalent credits) at UBC.
Requesting Transfer Credit Assessments
Transfer students who received an unassigned COMM credit (e.g., COMM 1st, COMM 2nd) may request a re-evaluation to determine if the credit fulfills a requirement in the program (e.g., COMM 293). Only requests for year one or two courses will be considered as all upper level commerce requirements must be completed while registered in the BCom program.
