What does academic integrity meme to you?

Academic Integrity is a fundamentally important concept for all students in academia. We would like to encourage students to add their voice to why academic integrity is important in a fun way. And what better way to encourage academic integrity then through memes!

We’re asking students to submit a meme related to academic integrity for a chance to win a prize. The meme could show why academic integrity is important, why students should ensure they follow the UBC’s Academic Integrity Policy, or how academic integrity relates to their future careers. But most of all your meme should be fun, creative, and inspiring!

Some important things to remember when creating your meme:

  • No swearing, crude language, or mean-spirited entries will be accepted
  • Be thoughtful about the entries you create – we would like to share these with the world, and we think that our students can create some fun and smart work

Contest open!

The contest will open for students on April 7th, 2024. Students will be able to continue to submit until midnight on April 16th, through the following link:

Selection and awards

Submission Shortlisting  

Six submissions will be short listed by popular vote by staff in the UBC Sauder Undergraduate Office on April 17th, 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be notified.  

Student Voting 

On April 18th the shortlisted candidates will have their submissions posted to the @CUSAcademics Instagram, where students will be able to vote on their favorite submissions through likes and shares. The three memes with the most likes and shares by 6:00PM PST on April 21, 2024 will be the contest winners!  

The winners will all receive a $100 Visa Gift Card or Amazon Gift Card. Remaining finalists will all receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card.  

Eligibility 

To be eligible for this contest, students must:

  • Be currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce program during the Winter T2 2024 academic semester. 
  • Agree to publishing their submission to CUS social media pages (@cusubc
  • This contest is open to both individual and group projects
  • Students may choose to submit up to three (3) submissions

Rules

  • Submissions of a unique meme related to the importance of academic integrity. The combination of the meme image and words should be unique and created by the student who submitted the work.
  • Image dimensions must be 600 x 600 pixels 
    • Video meme videos should be a maximum of 1 minutes and 30 seconds long 
    • The width of video memes must be at least 600 pixels in width  
  • Ensure that your meme is appropriate for distribution on official social media channels (no swearing, explicit imagery, etc.) - your meme can be inspirational, informative or funny.
  • Your image can’t contain any watermarks (your own or someone else’s).
  • You agree that whatever images you submit are your own. If you’ve sourced the image from another site, please ensure that the image is free of any copyright restrictions.
  • You agree that the quotes you submit are your own. If they are not, then we kindly ask that you do not plagiarize content. If you are using someone else’s quote, please provide the source for the quote.

    How to enter

    1. Submit your meme to this link or via the button above.
    2. Upload your meme to the form and complete the necessary information on the submission form
    3. Complete the artist statement on the form, describing your submission (100-250 words). This statement can include the following, and will be reviewed alongside your meme when selecting winners:

    • Explain why you chose this topic
    • Discuss how it relates to principles of academic integrity
    • Discuss why academic integrity is important for you and your community

    4. Confirm on the online form that the submission is your own and has not been taken from another source.
