Cap off your BCom degree

The BCom Capstone is a fun and innovative experience led by Dean Darren Dahl, Senior Associate Dean of Students, Elicia Salzberg, and BCom alumni. Registration is now closed.

What is Alumni Afternoon @ Capstone?

Alumni Afternoon @ Capstone is the afternoon portion of the Capstone Day. Students can attend workshops designed and led by UBC Sauder Alumni and get a chance to network with them at the Alumni Social. Registration is now closed.

What's the plan?

The BCom Capstone is an event to help 4th year students integrate learnings from the BCom degree and connect with a diverse group of alumni. Hear real-life experiences and gain insights on how your degree fits into the larger picture of your first 3-5 years after graduation.

Part 1: January 8th-27th, 2024

Students will be formed into teams - choose your own team members or allow us to create teams for you. Each team will receive a business challenge “kit” including digital assets, product samples and a case scenario from Susgrainable, one of our local alumni businesses. Teams will have 2-3 weeks to tackle this business challenge and, using the power of AI presentation simulators, pitch their best solution. (Approx. 7 hours of work total)

Part 2: Saturday, January 27th, 2024

Take a shot at the Capstone Cup! Led by Dean Darren Dahl and Senior Associate Dean of Students, Elicia Salzberg, teams will spend the morning continuing to work on Susgrainable’s business challenge in a fun, creative and unique way, with final judging by the company’s founders and investors. Cash prizes, mentoring sessions, recognition opportunities and the coveted capstone cup will be offered to the winning team.

In the afternoon, students will attend workshops designed and led by UBC Sauder Alumni – we call it Alumni Afternoon @ Capstone! These sessions are meant to be 2-way conversations where students can discuss their goals, curiosities, and challenges when it comes to preparing for life after UBC Sauder. Alumni will share intimate and personal stories about the first 3-5 years after graduation and guide students through activities with the intention of sharing insights they wish they knew when they graduated.

End the day with an optional social to meet and chat with a multitude of UBC Sauder Alumni.
