Academic success coaching
Academic Success Coaching is a service designed to help students improve their overall academic habits and confidence by way of one-on-one conversations with an upper-year BCom student.
January: Academic Strategy Sessions
Work one on one with a coach to create a personalized academic strategy for the upcoming term. Topics covered will include study habits, time management and prioritization, and goal setting.
February-March: Academic Success Coaching
Academic Success Coaching is designed to help students improve their overall academic performance by way of one on one conversations with an upper-year BCom student.
At a coaching session, coaches will be prepared to discuss a wide variety of academic goals that you want to work toward and/or challenges you may be facing. Coaches have access to a wide number of physical worksheets and resources on time management, prioritization, goal setting, and more.
- Starting January 14th, 2019: Mondays 1:00pm-2:30pm, Tuesdays 1:00pm-3:00pm and Thursdays 2:00pm-3:00pm.
- Location: The CLC in room 205.
- Register in COOL.
Lydia is in her 2nd year, intending to specialize in Marketing and HR. Currently, she is involved with HRMC, UBC Orientations and Spark, CUS, SISA, and CAP. One of her talents is that she can touch her chin with her tongue! Lydia’s coaching sessions are held on Tuesdays, 1:00pm-2:00pm.
Kristi is finishing up her final and 5th year, specializing in BTM. She is currently involved in UBC REC Intramurals and CAP. Throughout university, she has been a Teaching and Research Assistant, as well as been a part of CUS, UBC Orientations and Spark, and Co-op. Kristi has been to all the Disney Worlds around the globe and really loves Disney! Kristi coaches on Mondays 1:00pm-2:30pm.
Cara is in her 3rd year of the BUCS program. She is currently involved in Beneath One Sky. In the past, Cara has participated on BizTech and Reach Out. Cara danced competitively for not one, not two, but 14 years! Since she is on currently on her first Co-op work term.
Austin is in his 4th and final year, specializing in Accounting. Currently, he is a part of Sauder Sports and UBC REC Intramural Hockey. Previously, he has been involved with Suits U and Varsity Baseball. Austin loves the outdoors, playing sports, and trying new food! Austin’s coaching sessions are on Tuesdays 2:00pm-3:00pm.
Jack is in his 3rd year, pursuing Accounting. In university, he has been an Orientation Leader for new students. He is known to be a dreamer and likes playing music. Jack’s coaching is held on Thursdays 2:00pm-2:30pm.
Doris is in her 3rd year, specializing in Finance. Currently, she participates on NIBC and is on a Co-op term. In the part, she has been involved with JDC West Summer Dev, UBC Orientations, SLC, and Dean’s Student Advisory Council. Though she is from Inner Mongolia Province of China, she doesn’t speak Mongolian!
Tips and tricks from the coaches:
Study the hard stuff first. As you get closer to the test, you'll know what you need to review more closely.
Try explaining tricky concepts out loud to a friend or classmate. This will help the information stick better than just reading or writing it down.
Take a break or go for a walk! Getting rest, staying active, and taking time to eat a balanced meal will all help you focus and improve information retention.
