Alphonsine Lafond and Q+P Award for Indigenous Women in Sustainable Business (#103152)

Awards have been made available annually through gifts from the Alphonsine Lafond Fund for Innovation and Quinn+Partners Inc., in memory of Chief Alphonsine Lafond (1926–2000), for First Nations, Inuit or Métis students of Canada who are women in the Bachelor of Commerce program. Recipients must demonstrate an interest in environmentally and/or socially responsible business practices. Consistently demonstrating strong values of perseverance and tenacity, Chief Lafond of Muskeg Lake First Nation was the first woman chief in Saskatchewan, the first Nations woman appointed as a Justice of the Peace, the first Indigenous person elected as a provincial school board trustee representing a First Nation community and the first woman appointed as a Senator in the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations. Her contributions were recognized with the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1988 and the Canada 125 Medal in 1992.
