Service Learning Placement in Costa Rica (2 positions available)

Matapalo Sea Turtle Conservation is an organization, dedicated to environmental conservation. The staff at Matapalo are experts in conservation, but need assistance in managing the business side of the organization. As a long-time partner of the Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE), Matapalo Sea Turtle Conservation has been working with a group of UBC students (who have been working remotely from UBC) this year to develop a long-term business model for the organization.

Wideman Education Foundation Prize Competition

The Wideman Education Foundation is an inclusive community that promotes project management competencies and skills, and connects individuals and organizations to the world of Project Management. The foundation hosts the annual Wideman Prize Competition for teams of 3-5 post-secondary students who have previously completed a project that aligns with the theme of “Go Green Vancouver!” (completion means they have defined goals, identified and engaged stakeholders, scheduled, budgeted, managed risks, and delivered an outcome).

UBC Sustainability Fair and Ambassador Program

The Sustainability Fair is an annual celebration of student and community initiatives in sustainability. It is organized by the UBC Sustainability Ambassadors and aims to inspire students, faculty and staff to become involved with sustainability. The fair is an interdisciplinary and intersectional event that will showcase businesses, organizations and student groups aiming to build a more equitable, livable and inclusive community.

World's Challenge Challenge

The Global Lounge is hosting UBC’s 2nd World’s Challenge Challenge. This competition invites teams of three students to come up with a unique solution to a global problem. The winning team will receive $6,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in the International World’s Challenge Challenge at Western University. Students are encouraged to refer to the UN Sustainable Development Goals page when choosing a global challenge.

UBC Farm workshops

The UBC Farm offers 35-50 workshops per year, ranging from 1.5-3 hours to full-length short courses. Topics range from food production (gardening/farming, foraging, mushroom cultivation, aquaponics), food transformation (cooking, preserving, canning, cheese & beer making, baking), and other sustainable living skills (making fiber, craft-making, creating school gardens).
